Consider for a moment, how your life might be different if you knew that you chose it for yourself before you were born. This idea may seem ridiculous at first, but if you can humor me for a few movements and get past the initial shock of this idea it might change the way you see problems.
I understand that no one wants to struggle with weight issues and dieting their whole life while their rude neighbor maintains a great body without even trying. Let alone have to adapt to a disability or watch someone they love cope with a mental health issue. But if you look at it a different way, What are your defining qualities? What aspects of yourself are you the most proud of? What makes you awesome?
When I ask my clients, friends or family members this question I always get an answer that involves overcoming a major obstacle that they didn't believe was possible. I've heard meeting objective goals like finishing high school/college, loosing hundreds of pounds, and being a sports champion. More often I have heard answers like learning how to forgive someone who has hurt them, leaving an relationships ,overcoming an addiction , and surviving an impossible situation.
If the qualities we cherish most about ourselves are the result of overcoming difficult situations and the most difficult situations lead to the biggest opportunities for defining personal qualities , doesn't it make sense that we might want these challenges for ourselves? I hope this entry will encourage you to be open to some new ideas. I acknowledge that I haven't actually offered any insight or proof into the concept of pre-life planning but that's what future entries are for! Stay Tuned!
